Former Fulton County Inspector Headed to Jail
Ex-Fulton County erosion control inspector Don Mitchell is headed to jail for soliciting and taking cash and other bribes from a contractor whose work he was inspecting for the county. Mitchell will serve a total of 10 months in prison, however the last five months will be served in a halfway house, upon release he will have two years of supervision. Mitchell had faced a possible maximum sentence of 10 years and could have been fined up to $250,000.
There were three occasions in March and April 2007 in which Mitchell solicted and accepted bribes from a grading contractor based in Marietta, GA. The bribes included two cash payments totaling $1,000 as well as a $100 gift card to Red Lobster.
