Fulton County Commissioner Outraged and Disgusted at Government Waste
In a recent news release Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts states, "I am outraged and disgusted by the ongoing waste within Fulton County Government. There is no way we can justify this to taxpayers."
What exactly is "this"? Scratching the surface, "this" refers to; 400 cars in the Police department for a department that has been downsized to fewer than 200 officers. It also refers to other departments that have 50 pieces or more of heavy equipment waiting for surplus, valued at thousands of dollars each.
The surplus of vehicles and unused equipment is lying unused in parking lots and warehouses. Commissioner Pitts believes that this "Government Waste" be sold so that the funds could be returned to the County's coffers and applied elsewhere.
As a part of a recently awarded contract with a vendor to develop a central countrywide inventory process, the Department of General Services hopes to improve and centralize policies and practices related to surplus goods.
