In recent weeks, the well-documented drought in North Georgia has given us more reasons to conserve our precious water supply.  While countless efforts are underway at government levels to tackle the drought, it is important that we as apartment owners and managers step up in a big way.    Water conservation can be effective – if everyone pitches in.  Here’s what you can do today:
  • Make sure you regularly read the master water meter for your property.
  • To properly check for leakage, read your master meter during typically low usage times, such as after midnight.  If the meter is moving, you probably have a leak.
  • Try to repair reported leaks as quickly as possible.  This will result in saving money.
  • To check for leaks in a toilet, place a few drops of food coloring in the tank.  If the coloring appears in the bowl without flushing, the toilet is leaking and wasting water.
  • Aerators on kitchen and bathroom faucets, as well as low flow shower heads, are very good investments for your property.  You can save more than 10 gallons of water a day simply from having faucet aerators.
  • Low flush toilets, which many of you may already have, use one-third the water per flush.  These are also good investments.
Working together, we can help save water and strengthen our region.
